The $35,000 Tesla Model III is coming to a Tesla dealer near you in 2017. Tesla founder Elon Musk announced the news to AutoExpress on Tuesday.
In the interview Musk tells the AutoExpress. “The new model is going to be called Model III,” “We’ll have three bars to represent it, and it’ll be S III X!” Leave it to a horny tech billionaire to play with words.
This vehicle is being released as a direct competitor to the BMW 3 series. BMW is currently the worlds most sold luxury vehicle, followed by Audi, and then Mercedes Benz. At a $35,000 price tag the all electric vehicle is certainly worth giving a look.
This car looks fantastic. I would definitely opt for one of these over a new BMW. It’s not the first generation and I am pro Musk all the way. This guy is such an innovator.
The vehicle is rumored to have a range of about 200 miles that is about 100 miles less than the current range of the Model S. Musk said the Model III would be 20 percent smaller than the Model S. The cheaper vehicle price tag comes with a reduced costs for the battery. The automaker is launching a new US based battery factory called the Gigafactory.
The Model III will come with free use of the Tesla supercharger network. This allows Tesla car owners to drive the a distance similar to the entire state of Oregon. If you don’t live there that’s 6 hours to the north and 7 hours east and west.
The Tesla S is pricey and somehow that doesn’t seem to stop a ton of people here in LA from driving them. I have also seen a ton of them on the road to Vegas and to San Francisco.
Here in Los Angeles, I have the unfortunate displeasure of strolling past the beautiful Tesla shop at my local Westfield mall on the way to the movies.
Tesla’s aren’t just sold at any dealer so if you want to get your grubby little hands on you will have to travel to a city like LA or NY to get your grubby little hands on one here in the United States.
